Abu Dhabi Transmission and Despatch Company (TRANSCO) is responsible for the development, operations, and maintenance of high-voltage power and bulk water transmission networks within Abu Dhabi and beyond. Transco plans to implement a water transmission project that will supply the required water demand of Abu Dhabi Distribution Company (ADDC) consumers from Mirfa to Madinat Zayed, Liwa, and the Presidential Palace in Qusahwira.
Mechartes was entrusted to conduct pipe stress analysis, flange leakage analysis, and support design for Unit II and Unit III of a project. The work involved performing static stress analysis for water transmission piping at the pumping station and for buried pipelines. Based on the results, thrust flange thickness was verified. Flange rating adequacy was checked using the pressure equivalent method for flange leakage analysis.
The design of pipe supports included weld calculations for maximum forces and moments, derived from finite element analysis. Detailed AutoCAD drawings were created to show basic support design, channel size, and plate thickness. The analysis adhered to the ASME B31.3 standard. Following the successful completion of Unit II, Mechartes was also awarded Unit III to carry out similar studies.
