Dubai Opera is a 2,000-seat, multi-format performing arts centre located within The Opera District in Downtown Dubai. It was developed by Emaar Properties to host a variety of performances and events, including theatre, opera, ballet, concerts, conferences and exhibitions.

Mechartes carried out various special studies in engineering for the project. For the auditorium, which hosts concerts, operas, and banquets, CFD analysis was utilized to optimize the HVAC system for each application. Initially, an extensive study assessed the airflow of the underfloor plenum to analyze the flow profile and velocity near the seats. Further CFD analyses were performed, leading to an optimal HVAC design.

A similar approach was taken for the foyer areas exposed to solar impact from glass surfaces and the Indoor Dining Area of Sky Lounge.

The car park design included a duct ventilation system, and normal ventilation was analyzed to ensure CO levels remained within ASHRAE requirements. Subsequently, a smoke analysis was carried out following the UAE Fire and Life Safety Code requirements to ensure the project’s safety.

Additionally, our scope included conducting thrust block calculation and support design for irrigation, potable water, stormwater, and sewer water networks. This involved identifying critical loads on the pipes and designing appropriate supports to guarantee the robustness and longevity of the infrastructure using Finite Element Analysis.
