Objective
The objective of CFD analysis is to examine the flow of water and impact of the flow of water on surrounding building when tank collapses.
Design Approach
The VOF model is used as this is a surface-tracking technique applied to a fixed Eulerian mesh. It is designed for two or more immiscible fluids where position of the interface between fluids is of interest. In the VOF model, a single set of momentum equations are shared by the fluids in each computational, is tracked throughout the domain.
Conclusion
In tank without containment, the water splashes so high that it reaches to height of the district cooling plant main building & experiencing the maximum force of magnitude 650 MN and substation wall experiences the force of magnitude 30 MN. For tank with containment, the water is restricted to the containment wall due to which water splashes much higher than the previous case. The maximum normal force on the containment wall is of magnitude 2700 MN which is much higher than the previous case.
