Main objective of this analysis is to obtain stable fluid stratified layers inside the tank.To achieve it re-designing of diffuser is to be done to increase the thermal and momentum evenness inside the tank .
Reynolds number and Froude number are found to be the determining factors in the design and placement of the diffusers. It is further observed from the numerical experiments with CFD that the inlet geometry has significant effect for Froude number greater than unity. Therefore, the tank height – diameter ratio is selected to be the limited factor. Based on this limiting ratio, the average velocity through the diffuser arm is calculated. The limiting velocities from slots are used as the guiding parameter to design several sets of slot thickness on the diffuser arms. These sets are studied using CFD and the most even distribution of flow profile is used. Once the diffuser design is finalized and selected, the complete 3D simulation of the TES tank is performed and a great improvement in the thermal stratification is observed
With this improved diffuser design the thermal stratification between fluid layers has now been improved greatly.
