Objective:
HVAC Equipment like Chillers, gensets, HVAC pipes/risers/ducts, AHU’s attachment (floor-mounted/suspended to wall / suspended to ceiling) to building structure is analyzed to identify their vulnerabilities to mechanical/seismic vibration. The analysis is carried out by calculating seismic/vibration loads as required by the adopted building code (like UBC/IBC, AISC) in response to earthquake (seismic parameters) and remain intact and functioning after such an event.
Modeling & Analysis:
It is assumed that equipment attached to the building structure through anchor bolts/isolators is a rigid body and the whole mass of the body is concentrated on its CG and the vibration/seismic forces act on the CG of the equipment/Pipe/Duct.
The hand calculations are carried out to find out the reaction force on anchor points of the equipment/Pipes/Ducts attachments to building structure by Vibration/Seismic loads. Based on the output force, suitable anchor bolts are suggested as per the client guidelines & seismic/vibration isolators with suitable ratings are suggested.
Based on the calculation, suitable bracing and its spacing throughout the piping/Duct system can be decided and marked on the AutoCAD drawings provided by the client.
Outputs:
-
Seismic/Vibration force calculation (as per Building codes/ Client requirement).
-
Anchor bolt selection calculation for equipment.
-
Brace (Seismic restraint) spacing calculation.
-
Seismic restraint marking on Auto Cad drawing provided by the client.
