Kolkata Metro Stations

Kolkata Metro Stations

Location:  Kolkata, India

Scope:

The scope of work is to design the smoke ventilation system for the Underground Metro stations and to evaluate the performance of the design using CFD Modelling. Various Fire scenarios were conducted.

A Comparative analysis was done of various design standard like Eurocode EN50126, NFPA 130, SIA etc. was done to arrive at the most suitable standard applicable for Kolkata conditions. Also local building code NBC was studied. NFPA 130 standard was largely used as a design guideline for the fire safety design of subway stations.

The various design options were arrived at with varying capacity and location of smoke exhaust grills as per the guidelines provided in the above stated standards. The CFD simulation was conducted for each configuration. The results of simulation were interpreted and checked whether the required safety standards are met or not.

Parameters Studied:

  • Smoke concentrations

  • Temperature Profile

  • Visibility Profile

  • Velocity Profile

  • Smoke Simulation Movie

  • Toxicity i.e Carbon Monoxide Concentration

  • Radiant Heat Flux on the walls
