Objective
To check the strength of Skim tank for different load combinations of wind loads, internal pressure and reaction forces for new additional platform.
Design Approach
The focus of the analysis is on the main roof structure, tank shell, roof, annular and bottom plates; the internal stresses of each structural member. Nozzle connections have not been considered in this analysis. The entire model of fabricated curved beam with its connection members is meshed with beam elements and 4 noded plate elements. Designed vacuum pressure is considered for the static and buckling analysis. Wind loads are applied as angle variable pressure on shell part of the tank as per API 650 and EN1993-1-6 standard.
Conclusion
It can be observed from linear static analysis results that, stresses are in acceptable range as per API 650 criteria.
From buckling analysis results, it is observed that tank is safe under buckling for wind, dead and vacuum loads.
