Perform pulsation analysis & mechanical vibration analysis due to pressure waves in water injection suction and discharge lines at Mathura Refinery.
Design Approach
API standard 674 was used to perform pulsation analysis for two reciprocating pumps with load cases:
Case 1: Only main pump is running
Case 2: Both pumps are running
The simulation is modeled with pulsation generating mechanisms known to cause pump pulsation and shall be capable of predicting pulsation and shaking force amplitudes throughout the pump and piping system.
The acoustical with pulsation simulations are then coupled with mechanical analysis of piping system to ensure that the piping will have adequate supports and clamps to maintain mechanical natural frequency of major acoustical energy. Required spacing and clamp types have been determined by the simulation to ensure non resonant piping systems.
Conclusion
Results obtained from pulsation analysis show that the pulsation dampeners play an important role in controlling the pulsation level in pipelines. Also, Pipe stresses obtained from harmonic analysis are under allowable limits after following design change suggested:
1. For discharge line, 4 Additional supports need to be incorporated.
2. Type of 4 existing supports should be changed.
3. For Suction Line type of 5 existing supports have to be changed.
