Objective
To determine if skid is structurally capable of withstanding the added stress of applying horizontal and vertical body accelerations, as representative seismic accelerations, in addition to gravity loads.
Design Approach
Skid and Other components have C and I Channels and joined together through weld, screw and bolts. A Finite Element Analysis (FEA) has been done on skid as per standard ASCE 7-05 and API 618. Only structural components are considered.
Non-Structural components such as Compressors are considered as point masses.
Conclusion
From the analysis results, high stresses are observed on skid at the location where compressor is mounted. Adding two gusset plates at the base rail minimize the stresses. Maximum stresses observed under allowable limit after the design change.
