At Mechartes, we conduct comprehensive studies on heat exchanger maldistribution to identify and rectify uneven flow patterns that can degrade performance and efficiency. Our approach involves simulating the fluid dynamics within tube bundles using advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis.

By applying specific flow characteristics as boundary conditions at the inlet and outlet of the computational domain, we accurately model the flow distribution and identify potential issues. Given that fluid properties at these boundaries can be determined with considerable precision at the design stage, we address uncertainties in initial conditions through detailed CFD simulations to offer a realistic estimate of maldistribution across tube bundles.

Our objective is to assess the likelihood of flooding in certain pipes due to flow imbalances. We analyze how flow distribution inside the stationary header can lead to the formation of recirculating zones, which contribute to maldistribution and uneven heat transfer. By simulating these conditions, we pinpoint areas where performance may be compromised and recommend design adjustments to improve flow uniformity.

These adjustments might include modifying baffle designs, optimizing flow distribution devices, or reconfiguring inlet and outlet arrangements. Our findings adhere to industry standards, ensuring that recommended changes enhance the heat exchanger’s efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and extend its operational lifespan. After implementing the proposed design modifications, we validate their effectiveness through additional CFD analysis or physical testing, confirming that the heat exchanger meets performance specifications and operates reliably.

Through our meticulous analysis and expert recommendations, Mechartes helps optimize heat exchanger performance, reduce operational costs, and ensure efficient and reliable operation.
